FROM THE TANK
TO THE PAGE

1970
Born in Wilkins Township, just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Grew up as one of the poorest kids in a wealthy school district. Self-educated from sixth grade.
1990
Enlisted in the United States Army as an armoured tank crew member. Began basic training on 17 October 1990. Trained at Fort Riley, Kansas, and with the 1/37 Armor in Vilseck, Germany — under soldiers who had just returned from the Gulf War.
1994–97
Completed active service and transitioned to the U.S. Army Reserves. Attended Rosedale Technical College. Experienced homelessness while still serving as a reservist.
2000
Began filling boxes of notebooks in California — the raw material that would eventually become The Structure of Perseverance and his broader body of work.
2025
The turning point. The Structure of Perseverance receives multiple independent literary awards. Nine books published. Over 300 advanced courses completed through self-directed study.
"They drive you into the ground, then they drive you into the ground ten more times. That's what tanker training is. And that's where this system comes from." — Stanley Slaczka

Stanley's path to authorship wasn't conventional. No MFA programme. No publishing connections. He built his framework the same way he learned everything else — through observation, discipline, and relentless self-education. The military didn't just give him a story. It gave him a method: break down your environment, name the obstacles, and build a structure to defeat them. That method became a book. That book is now winning awards.

He has consumed over 300 advanced courses across disciplines, driven by a belief that education is not something handed to you by institutions — it's something you construct for yourself. Every book he writes is rooted in that philosophy.

A STRUCTURE,
NOT A SPEECH

Most personal development books give you motivation. Stanley built a system. The Structure of Perseverance identifies 31 named obstacles, provides four distinct tools for overcoming them, and introduces triangular thinking — a cognitive framework grounded in the rule of three from cognitive psychology. This isn't inspiration. It's architecture.
01
31 Named Obstacles
Every barrier you face has a name. Decoy training. Gradually lowering voice. Claiming control. Heavy losses. Once you can name something, you can deal with it. Stanley catalogued 31 of them from years of military and civilian observation.
02
Triangular Thinking
Grounded in cognitive psychology's rule of three — the principle that humans process and retain information most effectively in groups of three. Stanley applies this to decision-making, environmental analysis, and problem-solving.
03
Four Tools
The book provides four distinct, practical tools designed to help you break down your environment, identify what's holding you back, and build a structured path forward. Applicable to education, business, parenting, and daily life.
04
Environmental Breakdown
Your environment shapes your outcomes. Stanley's framework teaches you to deconstruct your surroundings — identifying what strengthens you and what weakens you — so you can engineer the conditions for success.
05
The Freud Connection
Drawing on the id, ego, and superego model, Stanley connects psychological structure to writing, thinking, and self-awareness. Understanding these layers helps readers see the forces driving their own behaviour.
06
Military-Grade Discipline
Forged in a tank battalion, tested in the reserves, refined over decades. This isn't theory developed in an office. It's a system built from lived experience in one of the most demanding training environments in the world.

THE STRUCTURE OF PERSEVERANCE

The book Stanley had to write before he could write anything else
This is the foundational text. Without it, none of Stanley's other works would exist. The Structure of Perseverance gives readers a systematic approach to understanding their environment, identifying the obstacles that hold them back, and building the mental architecture to push through them. It's an instructional book. An educational book. And it's winning awards because it fills a gap that most personal development writing ignores: the actual structure of how perseverance works.
